Updates & Enhancements to the Fast-Weigh 10 Web Portal & Desktop App

FW10 Web Portal

New Feature: Haul Zones

(Orders >> Haul Zones)

Fast-Weigh 10's new Haul Zones feature allows you to develop variable freight and hauling rates at the ticketing level. A number of factors can impact these rates, including distanced traveled during the haul. Each Haul Zone you set up will be specific to a particular region and location.

You may add Haul Zones by going to Orders >> Haul Zones and clicking New Haul Zone.

To turn on Haul Zones for a particular Order, you may visit Orders >> Orders and either edit an existing Order, or create a new one. Then go to Use Haul Zones, click Change..., hit Okay, and you will see that the "No" has changed to a "Yes."

Be sure to save the Order before you leave this page.

New Location Enhancements

(Resources >> Locations)

We have modified our Locations section to include the following new fields:

  • Latitude & Longitude
  • Physical Address
  • City
  • State
  • Zip

This will allow for location-based analytics in future updates.

Adding a New Truck: Haulers Now Sorted Alphabetically

(Trucks >> Trucks)

When adding a new Truck on the Web Portal, the list of Haulers you can choose from will now be sorted in alphabetical order. Now, if your list of Haulers is long, finding the one you want won't be so tedious!

Other Changes to the Fast-Weigh 10 Web Portal

We have updated our Help link at the top of the Portal to include all three help manuals for:

  • Web Portal

The Portal website also displays our new Fast-Weigh 10 branding, and includes a link to our Customer Support email under Help.

FW10 Desktop Scale House Application

Haul Zones

Once a Haul Zone for a particular scale house location has been added to an Order, you may now access it when ticketing via the FW10 Desktop application at the scale house. As always, after something on the Web Portal has been changed, the scale house Operator will need to click the sync button to pull changes from the Portal to the desktop app.

After syncing, any Haul Zones established on the Portal will appear on the Ticketing screen beneath Location. Click the symbol to add one of the established Haul Zones to the ticket.

Direct Printing

Now, you can configure the FW10 Desktop ticketing app to skip the Microsoft print dialogue box and instead print directly to the last printer used with no steps between. Depending on your daily ticket volume, this can greatly speed up the ticketing process.

To turn this feature on, navigate to the new PRINTERS tab under Settings. Enable the Advanced Printing Options and then choose the printer to be used for every ticket. Once you've set this up, clicking the [Print] button during ticketing is all you have to do to start up the printer.

Tare Validity Issue Resolved

In some cases, when you had Get Tare Weights from Portal turned on in Settings, an error message would result. This has now been resolved.

Fast-Weigh: Bringing Scale Ticketing Software into a New Digital Era

Digital transformation is taking hold in almost all industries now, revolutionizing traditional business & business software. Even industries like construction, mining, and bulk material transportation are seeing the effects of new cloud-based economies.

Simple technologies like QuickBooks Online allow you to set up a corporate accounting system in a matter of minutes with very little capital outlay.  Autonomous drones can fly a quarry or construction site and relay information back up to the cloud and provide earthwork calculations and topo data for a site immediately.  These are examples that would have taken days or even months to complete five years ago, and required significant resources.  As a result, industries such as construction, mining, and trucking, which were often lagging in productivity gains from technology, are now some of the most impacted by them.

By transitioning scale ticketing desktop applications to the cloud, Fast-Weigh 10 makes scalehouse data available to all your operations, no matter where you are. Moving information from being locked up in a scalehouse computer and making it available on any web browser or mobile device allows your company to view sales data in real-time.  Other advantages cloud-based scale software has over traditional Windows Desktop software include:

  • Lower up-front cost
  • Quick and easy setup
  • Complete real-time backup and data recovery
  • Ability to share data with outside customers and haulers
  • Access from any type of computer (Mac or Windows) and mobile device (Apple or Android)

Looking back over the years, we have seen the rise of many transformational technology companies like Amazon, Facebook, Netflix and, more recently, companies like Airbnb and Uber.  While not exactly scale ticketing software, each of these great software solutions have the key characteristics of all modern applications, which include the following:

  • Agile development. By leveraging cloud computing, software developers can develop rapidly, with more frequent iterations and a faster response than traditional desktop software.
  • Cloud-developed. Software developed for the cloud allows you to take advantage of a multitude of resources and back-end services not available in traditional desktop software. Cloud-developed applications eliminate the need for developers to worry about complex hardware and network infrastructure and focus on business solutions.
  • Microservice and API-backed applications. The shift to granularize software allows for fast development cycles and new feature development. This type of development reduces application complexity and simplifies the introduction of new modules and features more frequently.
  • Analytics platforms.  Modern cloud platforms allow for much richer understanding of information. Modern tools simplify things for both the developer and business user and transform data into information.
  • Lightweight. In almost any new development projects modern cloud application are replacing complex Windows Desktop software.  By allowing you to install, learn, and begin using in a much shorter period of time, these cloud based applications provide quick and simple adoption for new software.  Lightweight does not imply fewer features, but rather higher efficiency, lower cost, and most importantly, more responsive and functional applications.

In today’s digital economy, the implications of these new transformational technologies are forcing all companies to rethink their cloud strategies.  Fast-Weigh 10 is one of the first in our industry to adopt a cloud-based software framework and modern software development practices.  This allows our customers to leverage all the benefits of this new breed of software, most of which are not available on traditional Windows Desktop applications.

3 Updates to the Fast-Weigh 10 Web Portal:

Surcharges Added to Quotes

The Quotes feature now supports the addition of Surcharges to each attached Product. Hover over Quotes and choose Quotes. Fill out the fields there and click SAVE. Then click the +Add Product button and enter the desired Surcharge. You may also edit Products on Quotes already created, and fill the surcharge in there.

If you'd like to add the Quotes feature to your Fast-Weigh 10 package, get in touch with us.

QuickBooks Reauthentication Feature Added

QuickBooks Online regenerates all authentication tokens every 180 days, which means your QBO username will be automatically logged out after this time. In the past, this caused an "Access Denied" error to show up when trying to add a new QuickBooks customer through the Web Portal. Now, the FW Web Portal will automatically prompt the user to sign into QBO again every 170 days, giving you a ten-day heads-up before the authentication tokens are purged.

Ticket Query Now Includes Inactive Orders

The user interface on the Ticket Query screen has been modified to give you better access to all of your Orders, including those which have been marked Inactive. The long list of Orders in the Order # drop-down menu has been replaced with a simple input field. If you don't know the Order #, click the [...] button to search for Orders more efficiently.
